I sat through that phone seminar I mentioned earlier which essentially shows authors and people who want to be authors how to develop a system for their content so that it is sold by internet monthly subscription, video, audio, eBook, book, and live seminar. I have to say this evolution is progressing the way I've imagined book promotion would, but is not quite there. I have a few proposals in the works that will cobble together certain inevitabilities into my own "system." One thing that is clear: programming is becoming overwhelmed by a democratic supply and demand. My goal is to supply great content to those who are overwhelmed by the less than great stuff. The power of the new content distribution model is that anyone can do it. The flaw is the choices will run the gamut from very rough around the edges to slick--viewers will grow to understand that slick packaging may amount to (McCain/Palin style?) lipstick on a pig, or may actually deliver something real. So, more than ever, discovering books, music, media will be all about discovery and word of mouth. Hopefully this means that people will become desensitized to big publisher slickness in marketing.
